These old beams are the ultimate fireplace mantels, classic. Don't opt for a fake mantel, a newly milled one or one made from boards; this old one will be around for many generations. Characters are great: beautiful Doug fir knots(one on an end that rolls from the end to the side), nail holes, nice mantel ends(one end with a crack running across that has been tightly secured); and this one-of-a-kind mantel will give you eight hanging choices - not a bad problem to have.
